Digital Nomad Visas

Whether you're sipping wine with a view of the 25th of April Bridge or exploring the possibilities of remote work, we've got you covered.

If you're earning more than €3,280 per month on average and have the flexibility to work remotely as a freelancer or remote worker, Portugal's new D8, or digital nomad visa, might be the opportunity you've been waiting for. This visa not only offers residency in Portugal but also opens the door to Portugal's public health service and, after five years, the possibility of applying for Portuguese citizenship.

The D8 comes in two options: a "temporary stay" allowing you to reside in Portugal for up to 12 months and a "residence visa" with a potential stay of up to 5 years, renewable or exchangeable for permanent residency. Opting for the residence visa can lead to Portuguese citizenship after 5 years.

Key Details:

Temporary Stay - Duration: 12 Months
Residence Visa - Duration: 24 Months (Renewable for 36 months)
Minimum Salary: €3,280 per month
Bank Account: Required for Residence Visa (may vary by consulate)
Police Clearance: Required for Both Options
Family Reunification: Available for Residence Visa

Eligibility:

Earn more than €3,280 per month on average (net income) for an individual.
Be from a non-EU/EEA/Swiss country.
Have a clean criminal record.
It's worth noting that the D8 is distinct from the previously mentioned D7, which is for those with passive income.

While there is no specific regime for family reunification under the digital nomad visa, general rules apply. Couples may need to show +50% of their income for a spouse, and +30% for each child.
