Porto Moniz

Porto Moniz, located at the northern end of Madeira Island, is a municipality that offers some of the most stunning landscapes in the region. Between the imposing mountains and the calm ocean, Porto Moniz also enchants with the charm of its picturesque parishes, rich in traditions and customs.

This area is deeply marked by the botanical diversity of the Laurissilva forest, which dominates the landscape and meets the imposing northern sea through cliffs, cliffs and coves. The sea, which exerts a strong influence along the entire coast of Madeira, has a particularly significant presence in Porto Moniz. Since the beginning of its colonization, the inhabitants of the municipality have depended on fishing, an activity that continues to be an important pillar of the local economy. This connection to the sea is celebrated annually in the "Porto Moniz Sea Week", the largest cultural, recreational and sporting event in the municipality, where nautical activities such as canoe regattas, canoeing competitions, fishing competitions and gastronomic exhibitions are held.

One of the unavoidable icons of Porto Moniz are the natural pools, formed in volcanic rocks, whose clear waters are cyclically renewed by the ocean. This is the eternal ex-libris of the municipality, attracting visitors for its unique beauty.
